Rituals and Customs: Feature

Sung at the 80th minute

When the Portland Timber's mascot, Timber Jim, daughter passed away the army united and created the ritual to sing this at every game in the eightieth minute because it was her favorite.

"You are my sunshine"

Lyrics:

"You are my sunshine, my only sunshine
You make me happy when skies are gray
Youā€™ll never know dear, how much I love you
So please donā€™t take my sunshine away"

Sung in the 85th Minute

Dating back to their first season the tradition began to sing this in the eighty-fifth minute as a way for the fans to show their appreciation for the athletes of the Timbers team.

"Can't Help Falling in Love"

Lyrics:

"Wise men say ā€“ Only fools rush in
But I canā€™t help falling in love with you
Take my hand ā€“ Take my whole life too
ā€˜Cause I canā€™t help falling in love with you"

Sung after every win

This chant is only sung after a win. During the chorus, no words are sung but as they chant the melody they are led in a movement. The movement is a dance or a walk to one side and back as a group.

Here is an example of them performing "Tetris"

The 107ist

Section 107 became the seating area for the Timbers Army at the very beginning. Since expanding to other sections the core of the army became known as the 107ist. To be a 107ist you pay a membership due and these dues go to funding community outreach programs.

Log slice given to players

A slice of a log is given to each player who scores a goal or to the goalie if they do not allow any goals (termed clean sheet). Immediately Timber Joey (The person in charge of the log) parades the slice around the stadium. After the game the players gather in front of the Timbers Army and are given the slice to raise in unison.

Away Game Support

Dedicated to the team, the Army has become known for having representation at every game the Timbers plays. Whether it is busing as a group up to Seattle or getting group rates for air travel, they make sure the team has a squad to cheer them on. For those that cannot afford it, there is a sponsorship that comes out of the 107ist dues to help with these costs.
